About Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie & Fitch is an American clothing and accessories retailer focusing on high-end casual wear. Their headquarters are located in New Albany, Ohio, and they have more than 1000 stores between three different brands, which include Abercrombie Kids and Hollister Company. The main audience for Abercrombie itself is 21-24. The company was one of the first to use brand ambassadors, which they previously called models, for customer service in their stores. They have over 25,000 global employees as of 2016, and some of the employment opportunities include procurement coordinators, MHE technicians, senior internal auditors, business analysts, store planning, payroll auditors, and IT service desk specialists.

The company began in 1892 in Manhattan when David Abercrombie and Ezra Fitch started a store together. At the time, they were a high-end store for the purchase of sporting and excursion goods. They carried extensive outdoor equipment, shotguns, fishing boats, and fishing rods, catering to people who were setting out on major expeditions such as Theodore Roosevelt Safari and some of the early expeditions to Antarctica. The original company eventually had to close its New York store, but came back in 1978 when Oshman's Sporting Goods purchased the brand. Jake Oshman got the name and the mailing list of Abercrombie & Fitch for $1.5 million and relaunched Abercrombie and Fitch as a mail-order retailer. The company was then sold to The Limited and eventually became a separate, publicly traded company. Abercrombie & Fitch's focus shifted to young adults and today carries products like apparel, accessories, footwear, and personal care items.

The first two stores opened outside of the United States in 2005 and were in Toronto and Edmonton in Canada. They also opened stores in London, Copenhagen, Paris, Brussels, Dublin, Madrid, and more. Abercrombie & Fitch is a publicly traded company that reported $3.63 billion in revenue as of the 2017 fiscal year and had revenue per share reported at $53.02.
